We are the Thomas family!
I'm Andrea, Dillon's mom. Ron, Dillon's dad, and I met and began dating in high school in 1995. Ron was already involved in helping a friend with his late model stock car at that point, but not yet driving his own.
In 1997, Ron built his first race car, a Ford Mustang that he would run in the mini stock class at Wythe Raceway in Rural Retreat, VA. Over the years, Ron raced at various racetracks, both dirt and asphalt, and drove a variety of race cars and trucks.
In 2003, Ron and I got married and moved to South Carolina, living just south of Charlotte, NC.
In 2008, when Dillon was born, we were back at Wythe Raceway, this time in a late model stock car. I guess we had come full circle. Then the demands of jobs and family life took precedence and the race car was sold.
As Dillon showed more and more interest in racing, a sport that was still Ron's passion, Ron began to research how we could get back into the sport as a family. He happened to find out about quarter midget racing and learned that there was a track nearby in Salisbury, NC.
Dillon could begin racing at age 5, and start practicing a few months before that, so in 2012 we decided it was time to jump back in. This blog will chronicle our journey into the world of quarter midget racing.
