2013 Race Recaps

June
Dillon did AWESOME for his first race! I can't even begin to tell you how proud of him Ron and I are! It was his first time actually racing with other cars, but he did great and even made a pass. It also helped Ron to see the areas that he and Dillon need to work on the next time they practice. Once he gets that stuff down, this boy will be fast!

Dillon's second race went well. He definitely improved in a few areas since Tuesday. He started the race on the pole and then had a minor wreck while passing the leader that sent him through the infield. After that, he had to restart in the back of the field. He did get some cotton candy after the race, so he said it was a good day overall.

July
Dillon did great in his last 2 races! He started 2nd and finished 3rd (out of 4 cars) on Tuesday 7/16. He started 4th and finished 4th (out of 4 cars) on Saturday 7/20. We had a great practice day on Sunday and are heading back to the track for the Tuesday night races today! See you at the track!

October
Dillon's 11th race, what a great day! Started with his 2nd heat race win and ended with his first feature race win. We are so proud of our little man!

Had such a great day at the track today! Dillon got his trophy from his first win and finished 2nd in today's feature. The the kids got to enjoy some fun Halloween games and then "trick or treat" from trailer to trailer. Dillon had a ball and Ron and I got to enjoy the company of all the wonderful families that we have met at NCQMA!

November
Ron and I are so proud of Dillon for finishing up his first racing season at NCQMA this week at the Fall Nationals! Congrats to all the racers! We feel so blessed to have found new friends in all the wonderful families that we have met at the track over the course of this past year!

Stickers! - 6/29/13

We got the car lettered on Friday, 6/28. A HUGE thank you to Todd Davis of Custom Graphix for doing our stickers. I think he and Ron finished getting everything on the car around 12:30 AM before our Saturday race.

The car looks amazing and we got tons of compliments on it. Dillon really loves it and says that now it looks like a "real race car."

Dillon's First Race - 6/25/13

Dillon did AWESOME for his first race! I can't even begin to tell you how proud of him Ron and I are! It was his first time actually racing with other cars, but he did great and even made a pass. It also helped Ron to see the areas that he and Dillon need to work on the next time they practice.
Dillon finished 4th out of 4 cars.

Here's a quick video clip from during the race. Dillon is the black car with paper #4 on it.

Rookie Training

The NCQMA held a session of rookie training this past weekend and Dillon finally got to try out that race car!

The rookie training teaches the young drivers (and parents, too) the rules about racing at the NCQMA track and gets them started with some basic skills so that they are approved to begin practicing at the track on their own. The rookie training is 3 days, but we had to miss the first day the weekend before because of Ron traveling for work.

During the rookie training, we got a tour of the facilities and received a binder of rules and information. Dillon received a training book, too and it included some homework! He has to color and match up flags to show that he knew what the different colors meant. He did great with this!

The car and all of Dillon's safety gear had to go through a safety inspection. Once all that was approved, it was time to gradually introduce him to the track!

Ron got to be the motor and push Dillon around the track for his first few solo laps. Poor Ron had recently recovered from the flu, so I think this was his least favorite part!

After that, Dillon got to run some slow laps on his own. I was so impressed with his control and he did a great job!

His 2nd time out, he was like a completely different driver! He had a radio this time and I think having someone talking to him boosted his confidence to try and push that gas pedal a little more.

Dillon did great and I'm not sure whether he or Ron is more excited to come back to practice!

I'll post more photos soon, but I'm still trying to wade through the 800 or so that I took from our weekend of fun!
